I know, you can think my view is partial since I have been spending a lots of summers there for more than 35 years, but…visit and let me know!
However, I can say that this place over the years has never lost its spirit of “most loved place from natives”, even now that is one of the most favorite summer destination for foreigners together with Ibla, especially those who have a direct no-frills flight connection from his city.
I can say it is a good deal for both families and for young people as it offers entertainment and services for each target.
Personally speaking, I love (like so much) walking at nights at its seafront long more than 5 kilometers from the harbour to the end.
My favorite hotspots there are: Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi, the Harbour, Piazza Malta and the Lungomare Vecchio (old seafront). Any activity in the small centre goes around Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi (also told Old Square). For example, in the morning, you can have your traditional breakfast (granita and brioche) at Caffè delle Rose, our favorite bar (cafe). We will talk more of this cafe worthing a drive if you are around. You should also try a crepe (yes also outside the France there are nice crepes) at Puntocrep. Another spot I suggest is the little cafe in the corner il Sodo (fu pescheria), designed and restored every year by one of my best friends.
At the sunset you should walk to the harbour: the show is amazing and after sunset, the modern lighting amuses a walking through the boats in the night until a new sunrise. Before that please make a walk for the entire seafront: it is very romantic.
