Scicli is the most trendy spot of the journey. The only missing thing here is the sea, but you will not regret it.
Its principal square is famous for being the police office of the most famous commissario in the world aka Commissario Montalbano. Should you have not hear it before, you need an intensive online course, because it has already been translated in 19 different languages! It was turned into a successful TV Show in 1998 for the first time and since then thousands of tourist have visited the famous places of the serie. The show describes the adventure of the commissario in a fictitious district called Vigata, which in reality is represented from different locations within the Ragusa Shire, such as Punta Secca (where you can find Montalbano’s house in front of the sea), Marina di Ragusa, Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli, of course, headquarters of Vigata’s police.
Dolce & Gabbana fell in love with Scicli, its romantic atmosphere, the baroque charme and it was indeed awarded as one of the most romantic cities in Italy.
During the summer season you can see it in its most shining glamour. Nice restaurants are easy to find, where you can eat under the stars in the pedestrian area, covering the ancient baroque center. You will walk around finding old buildings open to the public to let them be admired properly in a summer framework, such as the Chiesa di San Giovanni Evangelista, Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, Santa Maria la Nova and Santa Maria della Consolazione.
Going up the hill towards Modica, you will find a street that overlooks the valley where Scicli lies and it is impossible not to stop to take a picture and notice the wonderful Chiesa di San Matteo, dominating and guarding the city underneath.
While in Scicli, do not miss a visit to the shop of our friends of Agromonte, who produce bottled Sicilian ciliegino tomato. Once you try Agromonte, your tomato would not have the same taste any more.
Book in Scicli now at least one weekend, it was the most chosen destination in the 2016!
